Polish Battlecruiser

While sitting on the train, thought that I would play with a Battlecruiser instead of torpedos for a change.

I took the graphic I found online and made some hulls for it.

The top view is purely my interpretation of the side view.  But the outline of the deck is the FNS Dunkerque.

The upper side view is my idea of what I would expect the hull to look like.

The lower side view is the FNS Dunkerque hull cut and pasted to fit to the superstructure.

Just realized that I need to redraw the range finders. B turret can not piviot!

I know I did not recreate the airplane for the top view.

I will have to do some research on Polish floatplanes.

Re: Polish Battlecruiser

I could not find any reliable information that the Solidarnoç actually existed. I think the ship is completely fictional. The only site that even reads like it existed was CombinedFleet.com which planly states the ships are fictional

The following series of essays and pictures regard a fictional set of Imperial Japanese naval vessels, and others, developed by my friend Admiral U. Furashita. These units never sailed the seas, except in the Admiral's imagination, as part of his "Victory Through Seapower" World War II wargame. I hope you are as amused by them as I am.

Every reliable source I can find, including Conways, makes it clear that the Polish Navy had nothing even approaching the size of a battlecruiser at the start of the war. Their pre-war build-up was hoping for eight destroyers and twelve submarines. The British loaned the Polish Navy in exile a D-class cruiser, the Dragon, which was such a valuable ship that it was later used for creating part of a breakwater of a Mulberry harbor. It was replaced by another D-class, the Danae.

I am sorry my friend but this seems to be a very fictional ship.

Here is another picture of this theoretical Solidarnoç (from mystarship.com)

Re: Polish Battlecruiser

I have seen this graphic of the proposed Polish battleship with two quad turrets many times. It was to have been built by the French.  I have never seen this graphic linked to the name OPR Solidarnoc.  Nor have I seen the Graphic of the Solidarnoc in the list of never was ships.  that is why I had hopes that this might be an actual ship.

As for the WW1 Danae Class Cruisers, the ORP dragon was sunk as part of the Mulberry after she was deamed a costly repair from the battle dammage she took on D-day. The Brits them gave the Pol's another light cruiser the HMS Conrad (Another Danae Class Cruiser) to replace the Dragon.

From what I have read, it was the policy of appeasement that Europe implemented that choked Poland of resources she needed.  Europe did not want to provoke Hitler, so contries like Poland were not allowed to build up thier miltiary forces!

In 1939, the Polish tank outclassed any tank that Germany had at the time!  Germany had 2,750, Poland had 880 tanks.  The Polish anti tank rifle was the best in the world. The Pol's just did not have enough to stop the German/Russia invasion.

Poland onl y had 400 aircraft in their airforce compared to the 2,315 in the Luftwaffe!  Yet so badly outnumbered, the Polish airforce shot down more German planes than the Luftwaffe did of Polish aircraft.

There is an account of where the Luftwaffe attempted to bomb a town along the coast.  In the way was one Polish destroyer.  The anti aircraft fire from that one ship prevented the Germans from doing any dammage to the town!  Speaking of Polish Destroyers. The ORP Piorun.  The only destroyer that I have ever head of to have an hour long gun battle with a Battleship and survive! (She was dueling with the DKM Bismarck!)

I can not help but wonder what would have happened if Poland was able to build her military strength?

I have a feeling that if Germany only out numbered the Polish forces by 2 or 3 to 1 instead of 5 to 1, that Poland would stopped Hitler in his tracks and the Russians would have had second thoughts about charging in from the other side.

OK, I will get off of my soap box now.
